Jalandhar 15 November (Jaswinder Azad)- Women Studies Centre of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar celebrated Fempowerment Day. The aim of celebrating this day was to cherish the achievements of women, recognizing challenges and sensitizing the students about gender equality. Various competitions and activities like declamation, poster making, poetical recitation, one act play and choreography were organized. In poster/ chart making competition Rupali (IANS-Sem III) bagged first prize and Sukhdeep Kaur (B.Com-Sem I) and Kirandeep Kaur (B.Com- Sem I) got second prize. In Declamation, 15 students participated, Deepshikha (BCA Sem-I) and Gunjan (B.Sc Med.) stood first. In Poetical recitation, self composed poem of Shweta (B.A. Sem-III) got first prize. 5 Self composed poems were recited. The one Act Play titled “Jawani Kidhar Challi” depicted misuse of e-technology especially mobile phone, facebook etc. by young generation. In Choreography, various forms of gender discrimination dowry, domestic violence etc. were depicted. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Director Women Studies Centre appreciated the efforts of students who participated in various activities enthusiastically. She averred that now the women are taking leadership role and have learned to fight for her rights and assert her individuality. She urged the students to raise voice against injustice and exploitation. Madam Principal also lauded the efforts of Mrs. Amarpreet Khurana, Co-ordinator Women Studies Centre for celebrating the day.
