Jalandhar 23 January (Jaswinder Azad)- The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, GNDU Regional Campus at Ladhewali here hosted various TV channels this week for Campus placements , interactions and discussions. Mr. Harpreet Singh, Senior Anchor and Ms.Divya Verma, CHRO Global of PTC Puinjabi held a Campus placement drive through group discussions, personal interviews and scriptwriting etc. to test the aptitude of the students. Students from the department and various colleges of the city and surrounding areas participated in the event. Five students of the department were picked up for internship and training at the Channel.
Ms. Rupa Jha, Head Indian Languages Division and Ms. Nivedita, HR Manager of BBC South Asian Region visited the Department to apprise the students for career prospects in the regional language digital channels being set up by BBC. Ms. Jha gave a presentation on the aim of BBC to reach to the regional language audiences in India as it has done in other parts of the globe. She advised the students to approach the channels as per their skills for job placements.
On January 19, Doordarshan, Jalandhar, held a discussion on voter awareness in the Campus, Dr. Jyoteesh Malhotra, Associate Dean, Prof. S.S. Sangha, Head, Department of Punjabi , Prof. Dr. Kamlesh Singh |Duggal, Dr. Namarta Joshi, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Dr. Varinder Singh from the Department of Laws represented the academia while students from various departments represented the youth in this interaction about voter awareness and the issues before the Punjab elections in 2017. Ills in education system, unemployment, brain drain, drug problem as well as lack of development work were the main points raised by all. The programme was compered by Mr. Raman Kumar, senior newsperson from DD, Jalandhar.
Dr. Namarta Joshi said that such activities boost the enthusiasm of the students and the department –industry linkage is essential for their growth. She hoped that such contacts will continue in future also as the goal of the department is the all-round development of the personality of the students.
