KMV Kaushal Kendra organizes One Day Workshop on Skill Development: The Future of Education

Jalandhar 17 February (Gurkirat Singh)- The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar has the exclusive privilege of having being granted the Kaushal Kendra by the Ministry of Human Resource Development targeted at raising a formidable number of individuals who have certain specialized skills, can raise their level of living plus contribute positively to the society. This Kaushal Kendra is known as the Deen Dayal Upadhaya Kaushal Kendra. In collaboration with the state Bureau of Education/ Vocational Guidance Punjab, the KMV Kaushal Kendra organized a One Day Workshop on Skill-Development: The future of Education. The day began with a floral welcome of the State coordinator-cum- Deputy Director (Guidance Bureau) State Council for Education Research & Training (SCERT Mohali). It was followed by a welcome address by Patron of the Workshop Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Welcoming all the participants from various institutions all over Jalandhar, she emphasized that the progress of the nation lay in the hands of the educationists, teachers who were rightly known as nation builders. We have to give a serious thought to how we could give a positive direction to the youthful force of India which was 57% now and by 2022 would constitute 64% of the population. It was sad that only 7 to 8% youth are employed and not only because of some lack of employment but also because of lack of employability. Skill Development should begin at school level and the main focus should be communication Skills Confidence, Building skills and Employability skills. She assured that the confidence that the Govt. had shown in KMV by giving it a Kaushal Kendra one among only 50 throughout the nation would be fully justified in action and spirit. The welcome address was followed by an address by the State co-ordinator-cum- Deputy Director Dr. Shruti Shukla. Dr. Shukla said that all academicians should lay stress on overall evelopment of children, who are not taught to be a part of the number race. She asserted that education meant giving values and skills alongwith imparting knowledge. The abundance of human resource that is available in India is its main asset and needed to be developed in the right-direction.  Various members of the teaching faculty associated with Kaushal Kendra then addressed the students on various subjects like Prospects & Avenues for Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Animation, B.Voc in Retail Management, Textile Design & Apparel Technology, Photography Journalism, Nutrition Exercise and Health and Management and Secretarial Practices. This gave the participants a wholesome view of the avenues that could be explored for skill development. The day rightfully concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Gopi, Director Kaushal Kendra.  She said that it had been an exciting, learning and fulfilling journey throughout the day. She thanked Dr. Shruti Shukla for having spared time from her busy schedule and all the participates for coming to the workshop on campus.
