Jalandhar 8 March (Jaswinder Azad)- International Women’s Day “IWD” is also known as the International Working Women’s Day or United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. Eklavya School Jalandhar every year on 8th of March observes this day to focus the achievements and contributions of the women in the society.
The celebration of this event was done throughout the school. Generally, it is celebrated to provide respect to whole women fraternity, appreciate them and to express love for them. As women are the major part of the society and plays a great role in the economic, political, and social activities, International Women’s Day is commemorated to remember and appreciate women’s all over achievements.
Gurleen Kaur of class 8th highlighted the importance of the day through her speech as it is celebrated every year to strengthen the political and social awareness towards the women struggles and their precious contributions.
The students were shown videos related to women leaders from the business, political, community, educational institutions, inventors, TV personalities such as from past History character Laxmi Bai to present successful figures Kiran Bedi India’s first woman to join Officer ranks of Indian Police Service, Indira Nooyi Chairperson of Pepsico, Geeta Phogat an Indian Sportswoman and Smriti Z Irani an Indian politician, former model, television actress and producer and Member Of Parliament. The students were told how the women of today is a helping hand to the family as she looks after the children and also supports the budget of the family.
A debate was also organized for class 10th where the students debated on the issues such as ‘Women empowerment in Indian Society, trying to reach equal pay for equal work done by women and men, in some countries girls still do not have the right to education• being forced into an early marriage.
Mr J.K Gupta Chairperson Eklavya School, Ms Seema Handa Director Eklavya School, Ms Sapna Bakshi Manager Eklavya School and Ms. Dimpal Sharma Principal Eklavya School shared their views as the international women’s movement has helped to keep paying attention to women’s rights and it will lend a hand to the students to build support for women to participate in society, and to keep asking political and economic attention to problems related to women’s rights.
