Jalandhar 22 April (Gurkirat Singh)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar has been transformed into the assembly of United Nations with its most awaiting event Apeejay Stya Model United Nations 2017. The elaborative event is being organized from 22nd to 24th April 2017 in collaboration with United Nations Informations Centre for India and Bhutan and Indira Gandhi National Organizations. Eminent personalities like Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyer, Former Union Cabinet Minister, Mr. Sandeep Dikshit, Former Member of Parliament, Mr. Rana K.P. Singh, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Lt. General T.S. Shergill, Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab with rank of Cabinet Minister of Punjab and Mr. Adtiya Berlia, Co-Founder & Pro-Chancellor of the Apeejay Stya University enlightened the august gathering as the key note speakers. In this three day enterprise, students will throw light on the social issues related to International Human Rights based on Discrimination of Sexual Orientation, Illicit use of Medicinal Drugs, Post impact of Demonetization, Politicalization of Educational Institutes like JNU and DU. In this venture, 500 students from diverse institutions of the nation would participate as delegates, these include National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Delhi, Amity IP, Delhi, JIIT Noida, DPS, Banglore, University of Petroleum and Energy studies, Dehradun, Jindal School of International Affairs, Sonipat, St. Stephens, Delhi and many more. In the inaugural ceremony, students of the college mesmerized the audience with their melodious cultural musical performance. Mr. M.S. Aiyer shared his views that the root of all wars in the world is the lust for dominance and feeling of otherness. He extended his views that United Nations Organization was formed to unite the diverse countries and to spread a message of peacefulness as the world has already faced the World War I and World War II in which millions of innocents lost their lives. But even after the establishment of UNO, the world has seen more than 150 wars like Indo-Pakistan Issue, War of Iraq, Syria etc. which was the result of man’s lust for power. Mr. Sandeep Dikshit expressed that a major threat to the world’s peace is intolerance and discrimination on the basis of caste creed, complexion, gender, religion etc. and only the power of educated youth can bring in a ransformation. Mr. Rana K.P. Singh extended his views that the problem of poverty, hunger, is increasing by leaps and bounds around the globe and only the unified nature of countries can eliminate these economic crisis. T.S. Shergill put forth a view that education is the only tool that can bring sophistication and tolerance in our civilization. Mr. Aditya Paul Berlia felt elated to see the successful beginning of ASMUN and said the world has seen a major change in the past two decades and ASMUN is a right way to observe the depth of world’s changing scenario. Principal Dr. Sucharita expressed her gratitude to all the dignitaries for sharing their valuable experience with the students. She said Apeejay has taken a step forward to provide International level’s exposure to its students with the organization of ASMUN 2017 which will prove to be a milestone in the lives of Students who aspire to become politicians, leaders and bureaucrats. She also said that it is a matter of pride that college student Gautam Seth and other 60 students collaboratively worked hard for 2 months for successfully organizing this Mega event.
