K.M.V.’s Department of Physics & Electronics Skilling New Heights

Jalandhar 20 June (Jaswinder Azad)- The Department of Physics & Electronics is the only women  department which offers M. Sc. course in Physics  and Electronics as a subject under GNDU, Amritsar. The department has availed financial assistance for research programmes, projects and organising conferences from various national funding agencies such as UGC, DST, CSIR, BRNS, etc.  Department is covered under FIST and DBT Star College Scheme. Five research projects are ongoing in the Department UGC, Dept. of Atomic Energy, DST and IUAC.  Department has research collaboration with TIFR, BARC and  ENEA, Italy. Department has successfully organised seven INSPIRE-DST camps and International conference on Nanotechnology.
Department can boost of highly qualified faculty having six Ph.D. teachers with International exposure. Department faculty is also guiding M.Phil and Ph.D. students.
Department students always excel in University results. Ms. Manpreet has topped M.Sc. Physics. Two students cleared GATE examination. On Achiever’s Day, 59 students of science department were awarded with cash prize on the basis of university positions and getting 80% and more marks. Students of P.G. Department of Physics attended the short term online experimental workshop by H.C. Verma, Professor at IIT Kanpur successfully and
Eight students of B.Sc. qualified National Graduate Physics Examination with top 10% of merit. For inculcating research aptitude, students were guided for  26  investigatory projects and 50 extended experiments apart from their syllabus. A number of students  of department have joined research. 
Department has high quality research labs housing equipments like FTIR, UV-VIS spectrophotometer,  DTA, Photoluminescence spectrometer, LCR meter, One Sample Preparation lab having High temperature muffle furnaces, digital balances, One Nuclear Physics lab having G.M and scintillation counters. Two Spectroscopic Labs having Zeeman apparatus, interferometers,  ultrasonic interferometer, lasers etc.
