Jalandhar 15 July (Gurkirat Singh)- 86th Annual Convocation of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya was held on 15th July, 2017. His Excellency, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr. A.K. Sharma, Vice President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries present on the dais were Sh. Arvind Ghai, Secretary, DAVCMC New Delhi and Dr. Satish K. Sharma, Director (Colleges), DAVCMC New Delhi. The Convocation began with an interaction with the faculty members followed by the traditional lamp lighting by the chief guest and the recital of DAV Anthem. A total number of 1129 students, 965 who graduated and 164 who postgraduated in 2015-16 received their degrees. 46 students with university positions and roll of honour were honoured for their achievements. 3 faculty members who received their doctoral degrees in 2015-16 were also honoured. During the oath taking ceremony, the students pledged to keep up the values of national unity and integrity. Principal Prof. Dr.(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen accorded a formal welcome to the Hon’ble Guests and presented the Annual Report of the institution highlighting its achievements, its innovative practices and the zeal for heading towards a better tomorrow. Focussing on the DAV values of peace, love and universal harmony, she exhorted the students to lead a life of righteousness inspired by the Vedas and envisioned by our Hon’ble President, Dr.Punam Suri, Padmashree Awardee. Dr. Satish K. Sharma blessed the degree holders and wished for the great future of the institution. He appreciated the college for its relentless efforts in attaining higher goals everyday. Dr. A.K. Sharma congratulated the institution for its varied achievements and stressed on the need to focus on higher learning and improving the quality of higher education by making conscientious efforts in this direction. He gave his blessings and best wishes to the degree holders and wished that they may shine like a luminous guiding star. The audience was enthralled by the motivating speech of the chief guest, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore. He applauded the efforts of the institution in pioneering the cause of women education and felicitated it for its accomplishments and all round development. He emphasized on the need of realizing the Make in India vision and leading a value based life on the personal level also to get rid of corruption in our country. He highlighted the fact that the horizons of opportunities have gradually increased for women. Dedication, sincerity and truthfulness are the hallmarks of women folk. Clear cut goals, hard work and not short cuts are the key to success. A standing ovation was paid to His Excellency for his thought provoking words. On this occasion, the college newsletter ‘HMV News’ was also released by the dignitaries. The audience was captivated with a folk song recital. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sh. Arvind Ghai. Among other present were Mrs. Kusum Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Sh. P.K. Sinha, SDM Sh. Rajiv Sharma, Mayor Sh. Sunil Jyoti, Sh. S.N. Mayor, Sh. Ajay Goswami, Sh. Ramesh Sharma Distt. President BJP, Dr. Pawan Gupta and Dr. (Mrs.) Sushma Chawla. The convener of the function was Dean Academics Dr. Kanwaldeep. The stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia and the degree holders were presented by Dr. Ekta Khosla and Mrs. Ramnita Saini Sharda.
