INITIATES PLANTATION DRIVE IN DAC
Jalandhar 29 August (Jaswinder Azad)- Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today exhorted the residents of district to play a pivotal role for making it a clean, green and pollution free district in the state. Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of plantation drive in the District Administrative Complex here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was all the more important for sustainable development of the district. He said that the depleting green cover was a cause of concern for everybody as it poses a serious hazard to the environment and human health. Mr. Sharma said that it was bounden duty of every individual to come forward and plant more and more number of trees to provide ‘green lungs’ to our district in general and city in particular. The Deputy Commissioner said that that major thrust would be laid on proper upkeep of these plants in the DAC. Describing this as a social cause, he said the district administration was fully committed towards enhancing the green cover in Jalandhar. Mr. Sharma said that the forest department was already in the process to plant over four Lakh Plants in the district to enhance its green cover.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that it was the need of the hour to protect our environment by planting more trees, so the district administration has embraced a new challenge for which this drive has been initiated. Soliciting fulsome support of people in this noble cause, Mr. Sharma called upon them plant and upkeep atleast sapling for the sake of their coming generations. He also impressed upon the social organizations and the NGOs to come forward and as crusaders to increase the green cover in the district. The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Gurmeet Singh Multani, Assistant Commissioners Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon and Dr Deepak Bhatia besides other officers of the district administration.
