HMV celebrated World Mosquito Day

Jalandhar 26 August (Jaswinder Azad)- World Mosquito Day was celebrated in the premises of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the able guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen.  On this occasion, a plethora of events were held.  The resource person of the occasion was Dr. Jagbir Singh, Professor from Deptt. of Zoology, Punjabi University, Patiala.  Dr. Jagbir Singh was given floral welcome by the faculty of science.  He stressed upon the rising incidence of Dengue, Chikingunya, Zika Virus and other mosquito borne diseases.  He discussed the solutions and precautions related to mosquito borne diseases.  An awareness campaign regarding diseases caused by mosquitoes was carried out by the Deptt. of Zoology by organizing Poster Making and Slogan Writing competition.  Student of Science department enthusiastically participated in the campaign and more than 40 posters and 45 slogans were made by students of B.Sc. (Med.) and B.Sc. Biotechnology.  Navdeep and Raman of B.Sc.III Med. Heena and Varkha of B.Sc. III Med. and Lakshmi and Tanya of B.Sc.II Biotech got First, Second and Third prizes respectively in Poster Making and in Slogan Writing Sapna of B.Sc. III Biotech, Ujla Sood of B.Sc. II Med. and Lakshmi of B.Sc. II Biotechnology got First, Second and Third positions respectively.  Consolation prizes were given to Anuja, Jasparam, Kirti.  On this occasion, a documentary on mosquito borne diseases was also shown to students.  Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of the students and encouraged them to be harbingers of a disease free society as far as possible.  The judges for the competitions were Mrs. Jyoti Kaul, Mrs. Rakesh Uppal, Dr. Meena Sharma and Dr. Jitender Kumar.  Dr. Seema Marwaha HOD Zoology presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Mr. Harpreet Singh, Dr. Kanika, Ms. Avantika, Ms. Charandeep, Mr. Amit and Mr. Sachin were also present on this occasion.
