ENVISIONS MOBILE PHONE TECHNOLOGY AS A CATALYST TO TRANSFORM DESTINY OF THE FARMERS
Phagwara (Kapurthala), September 4 (Jaswinder Azad)- The Managing Director of IFFCO Dr. US Awasthi today underscored the need for maintaining a good soil health to bail out the farmers from the current agrarian crisis. Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of a function to mark golden jubilee celebrations of IFFCO at Lovely Professional University, Dr. Awasthi said that soil health needs to be maintained not only for safeguarding the interests of the farmers but for fulfilling the food needs of the country also. He said that the need of the hour was that the farmers must use bio-fertilizers along with the chemical fertilizers so that the soil health was maintained at its best. Dr. Awasthi said that besides strengthening the soil health it would also help in maximizing the profit of the farmers.
Dr. Awasthi said that the mobile technology could act as a major catalyst for the prosperity of the farmers. He said that already 1.78 crore farmers from across the country were using mobile app of the IFFCO to transform their destiny. He said that through this app, which was available in 13 languages including Punjabis, the farmers were connected with each other and with the national market.
Dr Awasthi said that through this app the farmers could buy or sell their produce besides remaining touch with the other factors concerning the agriculture production. He said that this app also enables the farmers to stay tune with the emerging trends in the field of agriculture production. Mr. Awasthi said that the farmers have to adopt digital technology for enhancing their profits to make agriculture a more viable venture. He said that IFFCO was already in the process of designing machinery that could be beneficial for the farmers by decreasing the input costs and increasing the profits. On the occasion Dr Awasthi also held detailed deliberations with the farmers and representatives of the cooperative society on the agrarian issues.
