Jalandhar 8 September (Jaswinder Azad)- On 8th September, 2017, International Literacy Day was celebrated by Planning Forum under Department of Economics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the guidance of Prof. Dr. (Mrs) Ajay Sareen. The celebrations were marked by a poster-making competition in which students participated with great enthusiasm and showcased their talent and zeal for the spread of literacy drive in the society. The themes related to knowledge, education, literacy and empowerment were artistically presented on colourful posters. On this day, the faculty members of departments of Economics made the students aware about the latest facts and figures relating to literacy scenario in India and discussed the far-reaching effects of a literate society on various development parameters. On this occasion, Offg. Principal Dr. Jyoti Mittu highlighted the need for upgrading the levels of quality education among students in an endeavour to make India a knowledge power. She appreciated the efforts of the Department of Economics in spreading awareness about the significance of a literate world. The first position was bagged by Aabha and Ragini. Jaskeerat and Jayati won the second position. Their position was won by Harpreet and Aakshita. Khushbu Jain and Palki Malhotra got the consolation prize. Offg. Principal Dr. Mittu distributed certificates and prizes among the winners. Incharge of Planning Forum, Mrs. Jyotika Minhas, Mrs. Chandrika, Miss Shallu Batra, Ms. Harmanu and Ms. Rinku were present on the occasion.
