Jalandhar 6 February (Gurkirat Singh)- Supporting the health cause highlighted in the upcoming Bollywood movie ‘PadMan’, students of CT Group of Institutions, Maqsudan campus promoted the PadMan challenge in which they held the sanitary pads in order to promote the cause. Along with it, CT Public School organized a seminar on health education for the girls of classes VI - IX. Dr. Niharika Joshi, gynaecologist and obstetrician from Global Hospital addressed the students and gave them a word of advice on general health and problems related to ladies, focusing on menstrual hygiene. Dr Joshi said that the health status of women directly reflects the health status of the nation and it’s very necessary for the youth today to break the taboo around the menstruation. The concept of women’s health today has become a major concern among the developing countries because of deteriorating quality of life. She further stated in her talk, “Women are probably dying because they have been ignorant regarding access to medical treatment on time. Women’s health is compromised at practically every step in life. From womb to tomb, women are made to pay dearly for their women-hood and unless some steps are taken to make people appreciate human rights issues related to women’s health, women will continue to die. The common diseases that occur in the age group of 41 to 60 years are infections of the reproductive tract, menopause, genital organ prolapse, abnormal uterine bleeding, the genital malignancy and fibroid uterus.” Dr. Jasdeep Kaur Dhami, Campus Director said, “Men don’t talk about things. Women do not talk about things. It is what goes into society. It’s not only about women or men; it’s about how we have been living in the society. Its high time now that we, at educational institutions, shall impart complete knowledge of personal hygiene to both girls as well as boys. In this regard, we also support the PadMan challenge as well where the boys are also comfortably holding the pads and are acquainted with the health cause.” CT Public School Principal Mrs. Suman Rana shared that we should educate the masses, both women and men, about menstrual hygiene and to stop labeling it as stigma or taboo in society.
