18 New Courses to Commence in Session 2018
Jalandhar 15 March (Jaswinder Azad)- Taking lead in the academia, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the autonomous and heritage institution, Jalandhar organized the 1st meeting of Academic Council with the intent of approving various new courses which have been already designed and approved in the meeting of Boards of Study of each subject. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Chairperson, Academic Council apprised that Dr. Kamaljit Singh, Prof. Dept. of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. N.S. Tung, Prof. Dept. of Psychology, GNDU and Dr. Jagroop Singh Sekhon, Prof. Dept. of Political Science, GNDU, Amritsar were the university nominees and Mrs. Karamjeet Kaur Chaudhary, Ex-DPI, Education Department, Dr. A. Nirmala, Principal & Secretary, Ethiraj College, Chennai, Tamilnadu, Punjab Govt. and Dr. Karamjit Singh, Prof. University Business School, Punjab University, Chandigarh were the outside University Nominees for Academic Council. All the departmental Heads and Deans at KMV also comprised the Academic Council along with the members nominated by the Principal. The meeting commenced with the presentation by Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi in which she threw light on the glorious history and equally glorious present of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. Then the agenda was read by Dr. Gopi Sharma, which was followed by deliberations on various issues. During the Academic Council meeting 18 new courses were approved to be introduced in the upcoming session. PG courses include M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc Zoology, M.A (JMC), M.A. Cosmetology, M.A. Psychology, MA Dance, M.A Punjabi and MA Fine Arts. In UG level, B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture, B.A (Hons) English and B.Com (Hons) are being introduced and in Diplomas we have PG Diploma in Digital Marketing and PG Diploma in Textile Designing, Diploma in Medical Lab Technology (after 10+2) and Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education among others. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi further adumbrated that the new courses strive towards skill development and have global value. While redesigning the syllabi we have kept the sustainability as the major thrust. Syllabus of these new courses have been carefully developed keeping in view the requirements of 21st century education. During the meeting of Academic Council, many other important issues regarding regulations for admission, student scholarships etc. were also taken up. The Academic Council members gave their valuable inputs and were appreciative of the endeavours of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-as it has registered its name in the history for one more reason i.e. becoming the first women educational institution of Punjab to get the prestigious autonomous status. They believed that KMV will continue to excel in all its upcoming ventures. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi also lauded the exhaustive work done by all the departments while drafting the new courses and revising the already existing syllabi.
