Jalandhar 24 March (Gurkirat Singh)- The colours of rich heritage and culture were spread on the second day of Rajeshwari Kala Mahotsav’18 at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. The Mega mela has been organized to bring together the eminent artists and performers from across the boundaries to exhibit and witness the cultures of diverse nations and regions. On day two, Folk Dances captured the earthiness, beauty and grace of the different regions of India. The dances were performed by dance troupes in collaboration with North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala. On the eve of Durga Pooja, the event commenced with the stunning dance perfoamnce based on the legend of Mahishasura in Hindu Mythology. The magnificent performance left the audience awestruck while depicting the Killing of Mahishasura who was known for deception by Durga. Then, the audience tasted a flavour of Punjabis in the form of Jugni which is an age old narrative device used in Punjabi Folk Music. ‘Jugni’ means Female Firefly and Poet-writer used jugni to express the essence of life. In the next Dance, the audience was mesmorized to see the folk culture of Maharashtra in the form of Laavni. The Eliteness of Punjabi culture found expression in the marvellous dance of Bhangra and Jindua which are symbol of energy and enthusiasm. Jindua proved to be a feast to the eyes for the benign gathering as it expressed the compassions and desires of young lovers. The heartfelt elation found an expression in the words of Principal Dr. Sucharita Sharma as she said that the extra-ordinary event was dedicated to the first lady of Apeejay who was a keen appreciator of art and culture.
