Jalandhar 10 March (Gurkirat Singh)- Singing competition was organized on the behalf of Punjabi Literary Assembly DAV College, Jalandhar where,the students of different departments participated. The aim of such competitions is to create more interest in poetry and boost up students in stream of singing. The ceremony was started by the Vice Principal of college, Prof. VK Sareen and Head of Punjabi Department Prof. Lakhbir Singh. During this, Vice Principal Prof. VK Sareen appreciated the efforts of Punjabi Literary Assembly and added that, the appropriate use of language connects hearts. Poem is as ancient as human beings. From ages when man started speaking his voice came out in form of poem. Poem’s definition is as old as poem. With the help of poetry man can express the feelings of his heart in a natural way, Simultaneously, poetry and singing make the students feel free to express their views. Apart from this, Prof. Lakhbir Singh, Chief of Punjabi Department ,told the importance of language and discussed about its use. He said that poetry is a form of literature. Poet uses poetic tools to give better meaning. In other words, poetry uses language cohesive properties for its special artistic purpose. On this occasion, Prof. S K. Middha, Head of Punjabi literary Meet, gave information about the rules and conditions of singing contest. This competition included the songs of Prof. Mohan Singh, Nand Lal Nurpuri, Bawa Balwant, Shiv Kumar Batalvi and Surjeet Patar. Along with that, the famous singer Teji Sandhu also amazed the audience with his melodious singing. In this competition the role of casting was played by Prof. Rajan Sharma, Prof. Balvinder Singh and Prof. Satpal Singh. The first prize went to Anmol Preet Kaur, the second prize winner was Kirandeep Kaur and Shally Bhagat won the third prize. At the same time, Sukhveer Singh was honored with consolation prize. Role of Voice keeper was played by Deepak, who was perusing MA II year. In total 60 students participated in this competition. In this competition more than 100 students were present and Prof. Ashok Kumar Khurana, Prof Kamaldeep Singh, Prof. Satinder Kaur, Prof. Indu, Prof. Ghazalpreet Kaur, Prof. Manjit Kaur, Prof Kirandeep Kaur and Prof. Baljeet Kaur also graced the event.
