Jalandhar 15 March (Jaswinder Azad)- PG Department of Physics, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar organized a lecture on the topic “Glasses- The Unsung hero of scientific revolution”. Speaking to the students Dr. Ashutosh Goel from Rutgers – The State University of New Jersey (USA) elaborated the use and significance of glass in medical science, communication technology, mobiles, televisions, bullet proofing of automobiles and touch screen panels etc. He explained that glass has significant role in our everyday life from tooth and limb implantation to optical fiber technology in communication. He also informed that glass has major role in technology up gradation in the field of data communication while also adding that radioactive nuclear waste can also be managed by converting it into useful glass. Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra honored the guest speaker with bouquet of flowers and speaking on this occasion he said that technology has an important role in human life and active research in this field could make our life better. He motivated the students to pursue the research in the field of science for the betterment of society. Dr. GS Samra also expressed his condolences on the demise of eminent Scientist Stephen Hawkings and paid tributes to the departed soul on behalf of the institution. Dr. Amritpal Singh handled the stage duty while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. B. S. Chahal, Head PG Department of Physics. On this occasion Dr. Narveer Singh, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Dr. Navneet Arora, Dr. Santokh Singh, Prof Arunjit Kaur, Prof Jaswinder Kaur and other staff members of various departments were also present.
