Jalandhar 8 March (Jaswinder Azad)- An evening of mellifluous poetry, ‘Sham-e-Sukhan’ was organized by Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar on International Women’s Day to salute the vigour and sturdiness of womanhood. The glorious event celebrated the strength and spirit of women who have wholeheartedly contributed in making this world a better place to live in from past many generations. In this venture, Apeejay honoured the women of substance and renowned poet; Smt. Anjum Rehbar, Renowned Poetess, Bhopal; Dr. Naseem Nikhat, Renowned Poetess, Lucknow; Dr. Ruchi Chaturvedi; Renowned Poetess, Smt. Sukhwinder Amrit, Renowned Punjabi Poetess and Mr. Deepak Gupta, Noted Poet of Humour & Satire, New Delhi; Dr. Shweta Shenoy, Head, Department of Sports Sciences and Medicine, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Mrs. Neena Sondhi, F.C. Sondhi & Company Ltd., Jalandhar; Dr. Shruti Shukla, Deputy Director, SCERT Education Department, Punjab; Mrs. Purnima Beri, Chairperson, Harivallabh Sangeet Sabha, Jalandhar and Mrs. Parveen Sharma, Lecturer in History, Government Girls Sr. Sec. School, Nehru Garden, Jalandhar. Internationally acclaimed poets added shine to the brightening eve with their melodious verses.
The feelings of wife of an army man found expression in Dr. Ruchi Chaturvedi’s harmonious verses ‘Raah Niharu Kab Se Teri, Baithi Peepal Ki Chaon Mein’, ‘Kabhi Ansuni Si Koi Dhun Bajegi Mere Geet Bhi Yaad Aane Lagenge’. Mr. Deepak Gupta known for humour and satire brought smile on the faces of audience while satirizing political affairs and life style of modern generation. Cruelty of patriarchal society and pains of woman found outlet in the poetry of Sukhwinder Amrit. The sadistic tone of ‘Kavita Jara Mein Mushkil Phir To Uchaar Mainu’ forced everyone to reflect upon the grief of a suffering woman even in this modern era.
Complexities of human relationships, restrictions and freedom of women and men respectively, were expressed by Naseem Nikhat in her poetry. A mother, a sister, a wife, a daughter have such a credibility that no one can pay back. She raised a question of female foeticide and infanticide in ‘Hamare Qatil Se Koi Puche Hamara Kasoor Kya Hai’. Through lyrical couplet ‘Phir Ajnabi Fizaon Se Jorra Gaya Mujhe, Main Phool Thi Soshak Se Torra Gaya Mujhe’, Naseem Nikhat added the flavor of feminism in the atmosphere.
Dr. Anjum Rehbar took away the hearts of the audience with her couplets like ‘Teri Yadon Ko Pyar Karti Hoon, ‘Dil Kisi Kaam Ka Nahin Hota’; a suggestion for the young girls ‘Tum Kisi Ajnabi Ke Hathon Mein Zindagi Ki Kitab Mat Dena, Har Kisi Se Swal Mat Karna, Har Kisi Ko Jawab Mat Dena’, and predicament of women, ‘Meri Pasand Aur Thi, Sabki Pasand Aur, Itni Zara Ki Baat Pe Ghar Chodhna Padha’. Her revolutionary and rhythmic verses explored the roots of womanism while she enthralled the audience with her exemplary performance.
Principal Dr. Sucharita expressed her elation and said that a woman regardless of being either a house wife or a working one contributes and sacrifices immensely to pave the way for the development of a society and there is no such field where woman has not earned fame.
