Jalandhar 26 May (Jaswinder Azad)- Jalandhar Chess Association (JCA) is organizing a two day chess tournament at CT World School, Shahpur in which around 100 young chess players across the city are participating. The tournament was inaugurated by S. Charanjit S Channi, Chairman, CT Group, Principal Mrs. Madhu Sharma, JCA Vice President Mr. Ashwani Tivari and Secretary Mr. Muneesh Thapar.
The tournament is being held under seven different categories, U-7, U-11, U-15 (each open and girls separate) and U-19 (Open). The players that qualified for third round are Aarav Singla (U-7); Ayoom Sabharwal (U-11); Tiya Setia (U-11); Neeraj Mehta (U-15); Suvibhu Sharma (U-15); Aastha Kapoor (U-15); Dushyant Sharma (U-19); Dinesh Bhagat (U-19); Vani (U-19) and Yashika (U-19) etc.
Telling about the event, Secretary of JCA, Mr. Muneesh Thapar said, “This is the second tournament of the year which is being played as Swiss League System under latest FIDE Laws. This is a selection tournament for Punjab state championship. Winners will represent Jalandhar district in the coming Punjab state chess tournament in respective categories.”
S. Charanjit S Channi, Chairman, CT Group lauded the efforts of JCA for organizing this event of great interest and said that such events increases the power of thinking and reasoning of the players and make them more witty and active.
