Jalandhar 19 June (Jaswinder Azad)- Today the parents and students who belong to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category presented the Memorandum to Pro-Chairman of St. Soldier Group of Institution Prince Chopra in the presence of Managing Director Manhar Arora, conveying to safeguard the rights of their children to acquire higher education under the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme.
One of the parents Pyaara Singh told that we have come to know that government has not released the funds of Prime Minister Scholarship for the SC and ST students from the last four years to the college authorities. This has resulted that colleges have started claiming fee from SC/ST students. We are poor people and could not afford the expensive education. The ray of hope came to us in the form of Prime Minister Scholarship, but its poorly implementation has darken the future of SC/ST students and deprived them to acquire higher education in technical and non-technical education.
Student Inderjeet said “today we felt as we have been cheated by the government. They committed in their policy to remit our fee to the colleges, but now as the college authorities have told the ground reality to us, our community in shock and we have been pushed back again in the society. Our community has taken the firm stand to fight against this injustice. Even we have to call for protest or call for the shutdown we shall do till government responds to our demands.”
Prince Chopra on this occasion mentioned that “St.Soldier Group of Institution is working to safeguard the right of education for the members of SC/ST but at the same we seek the cooperation of the government for the same. Together we can uplift the down trodden community. He assured the parents and students that he will pass this memorandum to Chief Minister of Punjab on their scheduled meeting on 22nd June, 2018.”
