Jalandhar 23 September (Jaswinder Azad)- In a rare honour for any department, two former students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, GNDU Regional Campus, Jalandhar, Dr. Sarabjeet Kaur Sohal and Dr. Davinder Singh Chinna, were appointed as President and Executive Member respectively of Punjab Sahitya Academy. Dr. Sarabjeet Sohal was the student of the first batch of the Department in 1989-90. She has earlier served as the Vice President of the Academy. She has published various books, translations, reviews, papers, articles and poems. She was conferred the National Award 2010 by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil.Dr. Chinna was the student of the Department in the 1992-93. He is a successful cultural and human rights activist. He is on the Governing Body of Khalsa College, Amritsar. He is also Director of International Folk Ensemble – Punjab Cultural Promotion Council.
Professor Kamlesh Singh Duggal and Dr. Namarta Joshi, Head of the Department, extended their heartfelt felicitations to these alumni and said that the students have always made the Department proud with their achievements.
The Department congratulated Dr. Lakhwinder Johal for being appointed as Secretary General of Punjab Arts Council. A prominent figure in the world of Media, Dr Lakhwinder Johal has been a Senior PEx with Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar.
