- Special Signature Campaign launched to strengthen youth participation
- Postal Department to encourage ethical voting with special message on Pass Books
- Eligible Youth can make their votes till January 9
Jalandhar 7 January (Jaswinder Azad)- SVEEP Campaign being run by the ECI in order to encourage the more and more participation of Young voters during the ensuing Punjab Assembly Elections got a major fillip in Jalandhar district as 23000 youths aging between 18 to 19 years registered as new voters during last four months` span from September 7 to end of December. District Election Officer Mr. Kamal Kishor Yadav revealed this while commencing a special Signature Campaign to motivate the students of Colleges/Schools for registration as voters at HMV College here today. ``Before September 7 last year there were only six thousand voters of aged between 18 to 19 years. To encourage the youth to get them registered as voters the District Administration made special efforts to make the Educational Institutes part of SVEEP Campaign. Due to the cooperation of the institutes the number of such young voters increased to 29000 from that of 6000 during September 7 to end of December last year``, said DEO adding further that any youth fulfilling the age eligibility can get registered as voter till January 9, 2017.
On the occasion Senior Superintendent of Postal Department Mr. Mohammad Haneef said that Postal department has printed appeal to encourage the voters for ethical voting on back page of the pass books to disseminate the message of the SVEEP Campaign to households. He also said that the officials would also hand over an appeal to franchise the right to the people coming for opening new accounts at Post Offices in the district.
DEO also administered oath to the students to cast their vote without any greed under any influence on the occasion. SDM Rajiv Verma, District Guidance Counsellor Surjit Lal and College Principal Dr. Atima Sharma were also present among other dignitaries.
