Jalandhar 12 January (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- The Heritage Institution, JalandharLohri celebrations were dedicated to the marganlized section of the society. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mayor Jalandhar, Sh. Sunil Jyoti. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed the Chief Guest and thanked him for having spared time from his busy schedule for the Lohri celebrations at KMV. She wished all the guests, students and faculty success, prosperity and lots of good cheer in the coming new year. She outlined that KMV had been celebrating Lohri for the daughters of the society since its inception around 130 years ago. Through celebration of Dheeian Di Lohri KMV has always been making the society aware of the importance of including the marginalized section in the main-stream for its holistic development. This year KMV included 50 children from the economically backward section of the society in the festive celebration. They were given books and sweets by the Chief-Guest and the Principal. It is worth- mentioning that around 2200 economically weak girls/ women have been trained free at KMV. They are now at present self-employed and looking forward to a good and secure future. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Mr. Sunil Jyoti outlined the importance of cultural celebration in a culturally diverse country like India. He appreciated the stupendous work being done for women-empowerment at KMV. He said that meaning celebrations made festivals everlasting memories. Students on the chilly but sunny afternoon enjoyed peanuts, jaggery and other traditional sweets. They danced to the cultural songs and infused the whole environment with lots of joy and energy. The organizes Dr. Kamaljit(Head Dept of Music), Dr. Madhumeet (Dean Student Welfare), Dr. Gurjot (Dean ECA), Mrs. Amarpreet Khurana (Co-ordinator, Women Studies Centre), Dr. Harpreet and Dr. Deepika Co-ordinator ECA, Dr. Monica (Director Gandhian Studies Centre) played an important role in making the function a success.
