Jalandhar 30 May (Jaswinder Azad)- At Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage Institution, Jalandhar honing practical skills is a routine practice which all faculties organize from time to time. This is especially true for the science faculties. Recently the chemistry Department of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organized an educational trip to Govt. Sugar Mill Ltd., Bhogpur under DBT Star College Scheme. This was done with the aim to make students realize and understand various industrial technologies used in the manufacturing of Sugar from Sugarcane. The industry which was set up in 1955 is among the best performing sugar industries in India. The team of visiting students from KMV witnessed the complete process of sugar-making from weighing, cleaning, cutting and crushing of sugarcane. They also saw the mill performing the extraction of sugarcane juice, concentration, bleaching and formation of sugar crystals. It was an interesting observation that in this industry there is no wastage even the by-products are optimally utilized. P.S. Gill MD of Sugar Mill elaborated the usage of various by products like bag gases, Molasses in the other industries. He also made students aware of the employment opportunities in the industry. It was overall a very fulfilling experience. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the Department of Chemistry & the students for having organized such a fruitful excursion.
