Jalandhar 21 June (Gurkirat Singh)- International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar on 21st June, 2017 under the guidance of Honourable Dr. Punam Suri, Padmashree, President, DAVCMC, New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen expressed her gratitude to Honourable President Dr. Punam Suri and told the students that Honourable Dr. Punam Suri is deeply committed to promotion of yoga and under his aegis such celebrations would definitely invigorate the roots of our traditional yoga methods. She stressed that regular yoga practice leads to better physical, mental and spiritual health of a person. Yoga guru, Sh. Pawan Kumar and the college yoga team demonstrated different asanas like garuda asana, shashank asana, adhomukh swan asan, akarna dhanurasana, ardh ustara asana etc. The importance and benefits of each asana was also explained. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen performed asanas along with the staff and students of the college according to the set protocol of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India i.e. prayer followed by loosening kriyas, standing, sitting and supine postures. In the end pranayam, shanti path and sankalp wee performed. All students pledged to make Yoga an integral part of their lives. On this occasion, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, program officer, NSS encouraged the students to adopt Yoga on a daily basis. Mr. Amarjit Khanna, office supdt. also motivated the students. Mr. Raman, Mr. Pankaj, Mr. Lakhwinder, Madam Alka, Dr. Arti and other members of teaching and non-teaching staff also participated in yoga day celebrations. Students were given refreshments. The entire celebrations took place in a very happy manner and improved the energy and vitality of one and all. In the end, Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen thanked DAVCMC, New Delhi for constant encouragement.
