Govt. should release atleast 205 Crore before Diwali-PUCA

Moga 5 October (Jaswinder Azad)- Keeping in mind the festival season, Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) urged Punjab Government to release around total 205 Crore of Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) before Diwali. It is to be mentioned that 115 Crore has already been released by the Centre Government to the State Government while around 30 crore of the year 2016-17 and around 60 crore of the year 2017-18 is the committed State Liability. A meeting of PUCA under the leadership of President, Dr. Anshu Kataria was held recently to take up the issue. The meeting was also attended by other members of PUCA including Mr. Amit Sharma, Senior Vice President; S. Gurpreet Singh, General Secretary; Mr. Ashok Garg, Treasurer; S. Gurkirat Singh, Joint Secretary-I, CA Renu Arora, Joint Secretary-II;  Manav Dhawan, Tricity Coordinator; Cherry Goyal, Malwa-I Coordinator; Monty Garg, Malwa-II Coordinator; Mr. Rajesh Garg  and Mr. Vicky Singhal, MRS-PTU, Bathinda coordinators. Dr. Akashdeep Singh, Majha Coordinator and Mr. Sanjeev Chopra, Doaba Coordinator, Dr. Guninderjit Jwanda, Head Scholarship Dept.etc.
Dr. Anshu Kataria while speaking said that due to the non payment of over 1200 crore from last 2 years, the unaided colleges are also facing financial hardships. Kataria further added that due to non payment even salaries of last 4-5 months of teaching and non teaching staff members in some unaided colleges are also pending. CA, Manmohan Garg, Finance Secretary, PUCA while speaking said that PUCA is requesting Govt to release just 205 Crore out of total 1200 Crore before Diwali. Garg added that if any disparity is found in the audit then that amount can be adjusted in pending amount further to be released. Garg further added that Punjab government should also help those colleges whose accounts have been declared as Non Profit Assets (NPA) in last years due to non release of funds. S. Gurfateh Singh Gill, Vice President, PUCA said that government should stop the payment of those colleges where huge disparity have been found during audit while the other Colleges where there’s no disparity should not be penalized with delay in scholarship.
