Jalandhar 13 November (Jaswinder Azad)- A four day National Workshop on ‘Insilico Analysis tools in Plant stress biology’ from 13th Nov 2017 sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India was organised by PG Department of Biotechnology, Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. The inaugural session withnessed the presence of two eminent resource persons, Dr. Prakash Chandra Mishra, Asst. Prof. Department of Biotechnology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Dr. Ashok Kumar Dept. of System Biology & Bioinformatics Panjab University, Chandigarh accompanied by Honourable Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and Head Biotechnology Cum Convener of the workshop Dr. Arun Dev Sharma. The distinguished guests were honoured with a token of appreciation by Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra & Dr. Arun Dev Sharma (HOD Cum Convener of Workshop) participants from various institutes across the northern region took part in workshop. In the first session, Dr. Prakash Mishra gave a detailed talk about the tools that can be used for protein function analysis. His lecture was focused on ‘Insilico- methods’ as a X-ray crystallography, Homology Modelling, fold Recognition and ab-intio tools for predicting protein structures. In the 2nd session Dr. Ashok Kumar Panjab University Chandigarh addressed the audience on ‘Bioinformatics workflow tools for life Sciences’. He gave a comprehensive talk about the methods to organize and analyses biological data using Bioinformatics. He threw light that how bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary fields and can interconnect different branches of life Sciences. His talk was followed by technical session in which the participants were given hands on training on training on various workflow tools like Unipro UGENE and also how interface of softwares can be constructed like cancer geneme Atlas, R-Package Cluster, ENCODE Project, to compare the Polymorphisms of different genes. 2nd Technical Session included analytical, insilico techniques headed by Prof. Gobind Ram Assit Prof. in Biotechnology. He demonstrated various insilico manipulation of plant genes related to stresses. The session Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Harsharna Singh, Prof. Gobind Ram, Dr. Inderjeet Kaur, Prof. Vijayeta Joshi, Prof. Shubneet Kaur & Prof. Navjot Kaur were also present.
