Jalandhar 24 February (Gurkirat Singh)- Department of political science of DAV college, Jalandhar organised one day seminar on "Party Politics in india: Emerging Trends". The seminar was spomsored by ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre, Chandigarh. Main themes of the seminar are politicalparties and election commission, political party and ideology, reforms in indian party system, growing role of youth in politics, leadership governance and political parties etc. Seminar started with the floral welcome presented to Chief guest Sunil kumar chaudhary ( Prof in department of pol sci. In Delhi University) by Principal Dr SK Arora, HOD of political science department Dr. BB Sharma ( convenor of seminar), Vice Principal VK Sareen, Vice principal TD Saini, Dr Dinesh Arora, Prof KK Ghai. Lamp lightening was done by all the dignitaries present on the stage. DAV Anthem was played and all stood up in its regard. Momentos were presented to Chief Guesf Sunil k Chaudhary, Prof KK Ghai (former HOD of political science department, DAV college, Jalandhar), Prof Satish tondon (former HOD of political science department, DAV college, Jalandhar) by Principal SK Arora, Vice Principal TD Saini, Vice Principal TD Saini, Dr. BB Sharma (HOD, Political science department), Dr Dinesh Arora. Stage was compared by Prof Sharad Manocha and the convenor of the programme Dr BB Sharma, HOD of political science department. Principle Dr. SK Arora while welcoming Chief Guest Sunil Kumar Chaudhary said that today's keynote speaker is renowned as one of most eminent political scientist. We are blessed with his presence amidst us. Students of our college are always willing to attend such knowledge gaining seminars. Dr BB Sharma ( HOD political science) welcomed all the teachers who had come from different colleges and universities to attend the seminar and read their research papers. He said, "today's topic is really touching in our society as we are always willing to express our opinion about the party system and politics. India being the largest democracy and a multiparty system plays a great role in politics. Since independence we have been witnessing number of trends in party politics in India. He described the meaning of politics of contemporary time as struggle of power by using any possible means. He also described how opposition have been disintegrated since 2014, general elections. There is a need to revive UPA. INC is doing its best to revive UPA but is not successful enough. 2019 general elections are not so far and UPA should bring all the small parties under one umbrella. However Rahul Gandhi is trying his best but small parties are not willing to shake hands with INC. NDA is also doing its best to make government again in forthcoming elections but its also facing challenges by Shiv Sena. There are contionuos persistent efforts by both UPA and NDA. Keynote speaker Sunil K Chaudhary said when i got the invitation from DAV, Jalandhar i agreed without even thinking once. He described the staff of department of political science as jewels and compared them to 7 wonders of world. He said social scientists can not predict future but can describe emerging trends. Political science is a strategy for the struggle of power. But time has come that after gaining the power , now its need to distribute that power amidst the common people which in reality deserve power. He described various layers of democratic upsurge. Mr Cleon was first in the world to define democracy. First democratic upsurge gave the idea of Universal Adult Franchise. Democracy is a value to abolish discrimination and is a process to form a government in a fair manner. Shri jayprakash narayan was the first to led a revolution against corruption. Second democratic upsurge brought 4 Ms:- Mandal movement, Mandir, Masjid, Market (competetive electoral market). Third democratic upsurge brought the idea of LPG ( liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation) which created a specific role in the global market system. He also discussed Changing Democratic Trajectory from 1952 to 2014. If we compare general elections of 1952 with that of 2014 there were 53 parties in 1952 but number increased to 464 in 2014 general elections. 11 crore were the expenses in 1952, however in 2014 expenses increased to 3500 crore. He gave detailed description of 2014 general elections. Various changing electoral trends such as alignment to re-alignment, floating voters to silent voters, Umbrella parties to Pan Parties were discussed in end by Sunil k chaudhary. In the end of question - answer round Sunil k Chaudhary quoted a shayar of ghalib, "kaun rok sakta hai teri parvaaz ko, tune pankho se nahi irado se udna seekha hai." Technical Session was presided by Prof K.K. Ghai and Prof. Sayish tondon in which they discussed the changes in Indian politics. During this period, delegates from different colleges and universities have read their own research papers. In the last session of the program, Dr. Jagrup Singh, HOD of Department of Political Science, GNDU Amritsar stood on the podium and shared his views. Dr. Kuldeep Singh also presented his views. After this the certificates were distributed to all the delegates who had submitted the paper. In the end, Dr. Dinesh Arora expressed gratitude to all the guests in the closing speech. On this occasion Dr. Dinesh Arora, Dr. Sunil Oberoi, Dr. Raj Kumar, Prof. Naveen Saini, Prof. Naveen Sood, Dr. Suresh Khurana, Prof. Sandeep, Prof. Ravi etc. were present.
