Jalandhar 13 March (Jaswinder Azad)- "Food Festival 2018" was held in the department of Food Science and Technology of DAV college Jalandhar. The fesival was organized by Prof. Bhartendu Singla(HOD),Prof. Anu Gupta and Prof. Pankaj Gupta under the guidance of Principal Dr. S. K Arora.
Principal Dr. SK Arora said that the food industry has a lot of potential in which the future is very bright. It needs commitment, hard work and strong desire to get something with full confidence. Dr. Arora has motivated students to reach the heights by achieving success based on quality. He added that Food Science is a field where there can never be depression because basic needs comprise of food, cloth and shelter. He further explained that food safety and nutrition is a major issue in today's era and none can be kept away from Adultated Food. He is confident that this Food Festival proves to be new, beneficial and knowledgeable.
Prof. Bhartendu Singla said that her aim is to help the students making their career in food and technology. The most important purpose is to bring the quality in food items and she wants to make today's youth complete expertise on the topic of quality management system so that they can make pure food available to the society in future. He also told the importance of such events in promoting the interest of students in food processing.
The students of the department participated in various activities. There were five events in the festival. Food theme based Rangoli is made by using food items only.The first prize won by Gurkirat, Anchal, Veerpal and Dhanveer for FSSAI.
In Poster making competition priya got first prize for 'Stop food waste' poster. Various models were prepared representing various themes like modern village,pot in pot refrigeration, maggi manufacturing unit and farm to fork. Ist prize was given to model prepared by Gurkirat, Veerpal, Anchal and Anchit.
The very interesting event of the day was Innovative food product development where students had prepared healthy, nutritious new products for , players, heart patients,obese people, pregnant women , kidsandbelow poverty line peoples. Some foods and drinks were prepared by using waste of foods like peels of fruits and vegetables.
First prize in this categoty won by Bhakti, second prize was given to Deepali and Muskan and third prize to Jaskaran Singh.
A food Quiz competition was there. Team A of students Charneet, Supriya, Tushar, Tavishi and Bhakti stood first .Prof. TD Saini, Dr Nischay, Prof Sanjay, Prof. Monika, Prof.Vishal, Dr.Renuka, Prof. Komal, Prof.Geeta, Prof. Mandeep, Prof Baljit were the judges for various events. Prof preetika, Prof. Jyotsana, Prof. Komaldeep and Prof. Manohar of the department were present in the function.
The department of food science and technology is running four year honours course in BFST. Any student with science stream in 12th is eligible for the admission in be course .the seats for course is limited.
