KMV organized an Extension Lecture on "Glass-An unsung Hero of the Scientific Revolution"

Jalandhar 16 March (Jaswinder Azad)- P.G. Department of Physics of K.M.V., the Heritage and Autonomous institution organized an extension lecture on the topic "Glass-An unsung Hero of the Scientific Revolution" under DBT star college scheme for U.G & P.G. classes. The resource person was Dr. Ashutosh Goel, Assistant Professor, Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, U.S.A. He enlightened  the students about how material science affecting our day to day life and threw light on how glass is being everywhere and contributing in all aspects of our lives like health, environment, communication and entertainment. He highlighted the role of glass in revolution in healthcare in a very interesting way with the help of some short video like how glass is used in implants by dentists, orthopedics. He sensitized the students about the various applications of glass as bioactive material. Further Dr. Goel also talked about simple principle behind optical fibre lead to revolution in scientific world and showed videos that how glass is enabling smart phones & T.V. to go slim and sleek. He motivated the students to have vision to do efforts to manage waste material into useful things. At the end, he interacting with students and answered their queries about the core areas of job avenues in Physics including teaching, research, industry and global opportunity and he encouraged the students to come forward in research field. Madam Principal Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi encouraged the faculty of Physics for organizing such events. She also motivated the students to upgrade their knowledge with these events. It was quite motivating and thought provoking programme.
