MISSION TANDARUST PUNJAB- JOINT TEAM OF HEALTH AND POLICE DEPARTMENT SEIZE PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS WORTH RS 4.50 LAKH

•    HUGE QUANTITY OF DRUGS FROM CHEMIST SHOP AND UNLICENSED GODOWN
Jalandhar 14 July (Jaswinder Azad)- In a major crackdown under mission Tandarust Punjab, a joint team of health and police officials seized a huge quantity of medicines without purchase records from a chemist shop in Phagwara Gate and an unlicensed godown in Monika tower near Milap Chowk on Saturday. 
Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha, during a media interaction, said that on a tip off a joint team of the Health and Police department comprising Zonal Licensing Authority (ZLA) Mr. Karun Sachdev, Drug Inspectors Mr. Amarjeet Singh and Ms. Anupama Kalia, Dealing Assistant Mr.  Dinesh Kumar and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) Mr. Sarbjeet Rai and Mr. Dalbir Singh Buttar raided a godown in Monica Tower Jalandhar. He said that during the raid it was ascertained that illegal medicines were being kept there without any authority. Mr. Sinha said that the medicines including 107011 tablets including Alprazolam, Chlordiazepoxide, 1500 tramadol injections, 29000 capsules and 109 unlabelled bottles worth Rs 4.50 lakh.
The Commissioner of Police further said shop owner Puneet Kapahi of 119 Maharaja Garden locality of Jalandhar city has been arrested and a case under sections 22,61 and 85 of NDPS Act has been registered against him.
Meanwhile, ZLA Karun Sachdev said the health department will also initiate action against him under various sections Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 in the recovery of medicines from the shop. He also stated that the report about the shop would be sent to higher authorities in Chandigarh for suitable action. He added that the special drive would continue in coming days too and claimed that that the health department is committed for making mission ‘Tandarust Punjab’ a huge success in the district.
Prominent among were present included Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajinder Singh  and Gurmeet Singh, Civil Surgeon Jaspreet Kaur Sekhon, Deputy Medical Commissioner (DMC) Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Commissioners of Police Mr. Sarabjit Rai and Mr. Dalbir Singh Buttar besides others.
