Apeejay College of Fine Arts staged a renowned play NORAH

Jalandhar 1 August (Jaswinder Azad)- Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar in collaboration with Punjab Sangeet Natak Academy staged a renowned play NORAH which is penned by the eminent playwright Dr. Narendra Behal and directed by Mr. Kewal Dhaliwal.  Dr. Harjit Singh, esteemed writer, director and film maker illumined the occasion as the Chief Guest. The play NORAH represents the biography of Irish Actress Norah Richards who came to India in 1911 and in 1914 she inspired the youngsters to write and act for Punjabi theatre.  Out of numerous works, Ishwar Chander Nanda’s one act play Dulhan is highly appreciated.  Another famed Punjabi Playwright Balwant Gargi also considered her as a source of inspiration. She was also entitled as Grandmother of Punjabi theatre as she always played a vital role in establishing it. Kewal Dhaliwal’s play depicts the ups and downs of NORAH Richards’ life. Principal, Dr. Sucharita felt elated to see the staging of this magnificent play. She extended her views that her college is known for preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the nation.  She said this event is another step in this regard as it will acquaint the young generation with the depth of Punjabi Theatre. Dr. Harjit Singh, prominent Director and Film Maker highly cherished the gracious performance of the play and he also commended the efforts of the college in promoting the literary culture of Punjab.
