Jalandhar 21 March (Jaswinder Azad)- Towards spreading digital financial literacy among the public, the Central government and the District Commissionerate Department organised ‘Digi Dhan Mela’ at CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur Campus on Tuesday. The mela had more than 30 stalls in all, accommodating e-Wallet and m-Wallet services, agricultural seed suppliers, UID, Public Distribution System, Girijan Cooperative Corporation, Handlooms including banks SBI, IDBI, Central Bank, HDFC, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, financial institutions, telecom companies, mobile associations, accessory store houses, Khadi Board, Markfed, Verka and other departments. Apart from spreading literacy, we intended that some transactions should happen on the day. A daylong event aimed at familiarising various digital payment systems including mobile wallets to the citizens through real time transactions.
Union State Minister for External affairs Gen. V.K. Singh said that cashless transaction will benefit all including small vendors. He said, “The campaign aimed to sensitize merchants and vendors on the use of EPS. There would be no need for the people to visit banks every time as the Centre was making efforts to shift the focus towards digital payment mode. The event is of great impact as it sensitized people about digital payment systems and their advantages. It would immensely benefit people starting from small vendors and fruit sellers to hair cutting salons. Gen. V.K. Singh appreciated CT Group for hosting this amicably managed event.
Earlier the event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Varinder K. Sharma in the worthy presence of Mr. Manbir Singh (Managing Director, CT Group of Institutions), Mr. Harpreet Singh (Vice Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) and other dignitaries. S. Pargat Singh (MLA, Jalandhar Cantonment) was the Guest of honour for the event. Deputy Commissioner Varinder K. Sharma said that at Digi Dhan Mela participants interacted with banks and other stakeholders to learn digital transaction methods and about the required app downloads and technical advancements.
