An extension lecture was organised at Lyallpur Khalsa College

Jalandhar 28 September (Jaswinder Azad)- On the occasion of the birthday anniversary of great revolutionary Bhagat Singh, an extension lecture was organised by the Centre for Historical Studies, Lyallpur Khalsa College. Dr. Amandeep Karu Bal, Professor Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar delivered the lecture on the relevance of Bhagat Singh’s ideology in present times. Principal, Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra presided over the function. Programme began with a poetical note recited by a college student. A documentary film based on the life of Bhagat Singh was also shown.  In her lecture, Dr. Bal said that Bhagat Singh was an eternal rebel. At the age of 12, he visited Jallianwala Bagh from Lahore day after the bloody massacre and returned with a glass container filled with blood soaked soil. It was a turning point in his life. On the call of Mahatma Gandhi, he left his school and participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement. In 1926, he formed the Nauzwan Bharat Sabha. At his suggestion, the name of Hindustan Republican Army had been changed to Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. Bhagat Singh had deep commitment to Marxian socialism and atheism. His philosophy was not of a conventional terrorist but really had a much broader perspective. He believed that revolution is the inalienable right of mankind. Freedom is the imprescriptible birthright of all. Awaiting execution for the Saunders murder, he began a systematic study of the Marxism, and wrote a profoundly moving piece entitled Why I am an Atheist. In his article he rejected all religious practices on grounds of human dignity and rationalist logic.  Music Department students gave a musical tribute to Bhagat Singh by reciting mera rang de basanti chola. Director, Centre for Historical Studies, Dr. Suman Chopra thanked all the participants and appealed to the students to inculcate Bhagat Singh’s ideology in their lives. On this occasion, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. Sunil Kumar Bhagat, Prof. Sandeep Kaur and other college staff members were present. Dr. Karanbir Singh moderated the whole programme.
