DC CALLS UPON ARTISTS TO COME FORWARD FOR HIGHLIGHTING SOCIAL MALADIES ESPECIALLY DRUGS THROUGH THEIR CREATIONS

INAUGURATES ANNUAL ART EXHIBITION/ 2018 AT VIRSA VIHAR
Jalandhar 7 August (Jaswinder Azad)- Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today gave a clarion call to the artists to come forward for highlighting social maladies especially the curse of drugs through their creations for further sensitizing the people on this serious issue.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration of Annual Art Exhibition/ 2018 at Virsa Vihar here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that artistic creations could play a major role in transformation of society as they convey a very strong message to the people. He said that the creations of artists leave an indelible imprint on the minds of people due to which they could be very useful in bring much needed transformation in wake of the challenges posed by the abuses. Mr. Sharma said that artists could act as an agent of change by focusing on the prevalent challenges before the society in their creations.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that being a powerful mode of communication art has great impact on the minds and psyche of the masses. Mr. Sharma said that the time was ripe when this potential tool could be utilized well for wiping social maladies especially like female foeticide, corruption, illiteracy and above all the drugs from the society. He said that on the directions of the state government, the district administration was already making strenuous efforts to remove this curse from society.
The Deputy Commissioner however said that the artists could further supplement these activities it by making the people aware about these problems, which were hampering the growth of an individual, social and a nation, through their powerful creations. He said that it was the moral duty of each one of us to contribute for this noble cause by uniting hands for further cementing social fabric of our country. Complementing the Punjab Lalit Kala Academy and Apeejay College of Fine Arts for holding the annual art exhibition, Mr. Sharma said that it would provide a platform to budding artists to sharpen their skills and exhibit their talent through this exhibition.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Principal Dr.Sucharita Sharma, Capt Inderjit Singh Dhammi, President Punjab Lalit Kala Academy Diwan Manna and others.
