More than 200 students from different streams participated in various competitions including Cricket, Volleyball and Basketball.
Jalandhar 29 August (Jaswinder Azad)- CT Group of Institutions celebrated National Sports Day on Monday at its Shahpur Campus. More than 200 students from different streams participated in various games including Cricket, Volleyball and Basketball. The day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand. The basketball match was for girls while Cricket and Volleyball was played by Boys. The Students were also given information regarding Sports Day as Major Dhyan Chand was India’s greatest hockey player. He has scored over 1000 goals between 1926 and 1948. He helped India win 3 Olympic Gold Medals including the first in 1928 (Amsterdum Olympic Games) and then in 1932 (Los Angeles Olympic Games) and 1936 (Berlin Olympic games). The top performers were felicitated with medals and trophies at the event.
Mr. Harpreet Singh (Vice Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) said that it is also learnt that India is not winning medals in proportion to its population at Olympics and other reputed sports events that calls for various reasons but one of the major reason is the participation and motivation among the youngsters to perform. He said, “If Youngsters themselves come up for the achieving resources to get their goal, nobody or no problem can stop them.”
In Olympics, Women players brought laurels for our nation, he said, “Women players have proved their mettle. We at our institutions also encourage the participation and performance level of girl players and would continue to do so along with the male players.”
S. Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) encouraged the students to participate more in sports activities to be physically and mentally fit. He said, “If we are physically and mentally fit then only we can cope up with other situations of life. We can face any hurdle at the same time we can perform excellent in our academics as well.”
